Upcycling: Jeans To Gathered Skirt

Learn to reuse and repurpose denim fabric into something new and trendy. You will go home with your own one-of-a-kind upcycled denim skirt, plus new skills for transforming denim in creative ways!

Skills you’ll learn: How to cut and rework jeans to become a skirt, how to topstitch on denim, use a denim needle, and how to gather fabric.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

This is an intermediate level class.

You MUST know how to operate a sewing machine to take this class. This class is for sewists who are comfortable using a sewing machine and have some sewing experience.

You MUST have taken our Learn to Sew 101-103 classes or have the equivalent skills.

SUPPLIES REQUIRED:

Student MUST bring ALL of the following items:

A pair of old jeans that fit the waist of the person the skirt is for.

1.5 - 2 yards of supplemental fabric for the gathered skirt (lightweight apparel fabric, such as cottons like
lawn or voile, linen, rayon, etc.

DO NOT bring a stretchy, slippery, or furry fabric for this project

Matching all-purpose thread (choose a color that blends or contrasts with your denim for a creative touch)

Denim or jean sewing needles for your sewing machine, size 16 or 18. (We'll go over why this is important).
