DATES AND TIMES:

Saturday, March 4 (4:00-8:00 pm)

and Sunday, March 5 (Noon-4:00pm)

IMPORTANT: This is an 8 hour class taken in two days with four hours each day. You may need to do some sewing homework in between classes. There will be breaks as needed.

In this class you will learn the skills to make your own custom fit overalls, using a Helen’s Closet brand pattern. Learn to sew buttonholes, insert an invisible zipper, darts, top-stitching, and a facing finish.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Sewing 101-104 or equivalent skills. You must be familiar with operating a sewing machine and sewing in a straight line to take this class. Instructor will not have time for teaching basic sewing machine operation.

  • Helen’s Closet is a pdf pattern company. For your convenience, we will have your pattern printed for you. Please arrange to come to the studio to pick up your pattern well before the first day of class. When you come to get your pattern, we’ll show you how to measure yourself and provide guidance on how to prepare for class. This should only take 10-15 minutes. It is important that you give yourself enough time to cut your pattern to size, and have your fabric pieces cut out before the class. To be safe, give yourself two hours to do this. If you need help with cutting your pattern and/or fabric, please schedule additional studio time prior to the class. A Guided Sewing session is perfect for this. Time spent cutting out your pattern and fabric is not included in the price of the class.

SUPPLY LIST:

Student MUST bring ALL of the following items:

  • Three to four yards (depending on your size) of pre-washed and ironed fabric for your project. Helen’s Closet Patterns recommends: Medium to heavy weight woven fabrics such as cotton twill, denim (up to 10oz), linen, corduroy, and canvas. Crisp lightweight fabrics such as cotton and lightweight linen can also be used for warm-weather overalls. Use more drapey fabrics such as Tencel twill, wool crepe, or linen/viscose slub if you want to experiment with a softer, less structured look.

  • DO NOT bring a stretch knit fabric for this class.

  • Matching thread

  • One 5”  (13 cm) invisible zipper

  • Two ¾” (2 cm) buttons
