1970s Vintage Apron Dress (Intermediate)
Simplicity 9739
Just in time for summer! Have fun sewing a custom made Apron Dress in a supportive setting. Originally released in 1972, this Simplicity apron dress pattern features only a few pattern pieces, plus, darts, straps, and a facing. These are all common details of clothing that every sewist should know. Let us guide you through the process of sewing this adorable apron dress. It can be worn alone or with a top underneath.
About the Class
PREP WORK:
Prior to the class, students must do the following.:
1) Pick up your pattern from the Easy Going Sewing Studio or arrange to have us mail it to you for $10. Please do this at least 10 days before class. (We can help you choose your size when you come for your pattern, or call us if you need help choosing at home.)
2) For best results, choose which pattern pieces you need and press them with a dry iron before positioning them onto your fabric.
3) Pin your pattern to your fabric, making sure that it is on-grain, and cut out your pieces. We recommend you cut your darts outward from the edge of your fabric.
4) Mark all the darts, dots, and other markings. Leave your pattern pieces attached if you’d like, so we can check them when you come in for the class.
5) Please give yourself at least two hours to cut out and mark your fabric.
6) If you need help with preparing and cutting, schedule a private two-hour session during the week, and we’ll help you.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
1) Skills learned at our Adult Beginner Clothing class, or some experience using a sewing pattern.
2) MUST be able to confidently thread and operate a sewing machine.
3) Students must be aware of basic sewing terms (i.e. ‘backstitching’, ‘right sides together’, and ‘seam allowance’)
SUPPLIES REQUIRED:
1) Fabric: cotton twill or light-medium weight denim, chambray, linen or linen blend.
**We can help you figure out how much fabric to buy when you come in for your pattern, or we can help you by phone if we mail it to you. We have appropriate fabric for sale here from $6-10/yd.**
2) Matching all-purpose thread (We recommend Coates & Clark or Gutterman Brands)
3) Your sewing kit (Fabric shears, extra size 12 or 14 universal sewing machine needles, extra bobbins for your machine, pins and/or clips, seam gauge.)
SUPPLIES INCLUDED:
1) Simplicity Pattern 9739 ($23.95 Value)
2) Interfacing
3) Sewing machine, but we encourage you to bring yours!
4) Iron and tools for pressing
Students should be able to complete all or most of their apron dress in class, but may need to sew the hem at home.

CLASS POLICIES:
At Easy Going Sewing we keep our classes small, usually 4-6 students per instructor, so everyone gets plenty of attention. Because of this, we have a few important policies.
MARK YOUR CALENDER
We do not send class reminders. Please mark your calendar when you register.
IMPORTANT: Classes begin on time. If you will be more than 10 minutes late YOU MUST reschedule as you will not be able to catch up and will disrupt the class for others. Please be courteous as we teach several classes per day and need to get the studio ready for the next class. **Clubs do not have a strict arrival policy.
ATTENDANCE:
1. Attendance at all sessions is important.
2. Please arrive 5 minutes before class.
3. Missed classes in a multi-week series can be made up with a 2-hour private lesson for $119.
4. Make-up sessions cannot be transferred to other series.
5. Showing up to each session is important — especially for multi-week series where each class builds on the last.
STRICT CANCELATION POLICY: REFUNDS & CLASS CREDIT
We are a very small business so last-minute cancellations significantly affect our ability to plan classes, prepare materials, and schedule staffing in a sustainable way. Last minute cancelations leave us paying for staff and prep work that is not needed. For this reason we have a strict cancelation policy.
1. We do not offer refunds unless Easy Going Sewing must cancel a class for some reason. Think of your registration as a ticket to an event.
2. If you give at least 72 hours notice, we are happy to issue credit toward a future class.
3. If you miss class due to forgetting, illness, last-minute schedule changes, work conflicts, etc, we do not issue credit outside of the 72 hour cancellation window. You are welcome to transfer your class to someone else, as long as they meet the skills required for the class.
4. You can view your balance in your account. Your class credit balance will appear at checkout as a payment option when registering for a future class - simply click “Apply Credit Balance” when checking out.
5. If you cannot attend a class you have paid for and are not eligible for a credit, you may transfer your spot to a friend, co-worker, or family member (like a ticket to an event). Please email us their name, or have them reach out so we will know ahead of class and can greet them properly.
SEWING MACHINES:
1. We encourage you to bring your own machine, but we have machines available for use.
2. We do not service sewing machines.
3. For servicing, contact A-1 Sewing in Tucker
SAFETY & LIABILITY:
Sewing involves tools such as scissors, needles, irons, and rotary cutters. By registering for or attending a class, you acknowledge these risks and agree to release Easy Going Sewing, its owner, instructors, and staff from liability related to injury. Any required medical treatment will be your responsibility.
CHOOSING THE RIGHT CLASS LEVEL:
