Alterations and Hems Workshop

Learn to alter your clothing in this hands-on workshop. Making clothing fit well can be tricky, but with some simple techniques, you can master the art of basic tailoring and hemming to achieve a more perfect fit. We’ll guide you through the process of transforming off-the-rack clothing into custom-fitted pieces. Take this workshop as many times as you need to!

In this 3-hour workshop, students will:

Learn how to assess fit issues

Take accurate body measurements

Learn to pin and mark for hems and other alterations

Use a sewing machine, or hand sew to make alterations

**Homework may be required to complete the alterations you learn.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

Basic sewing machine operation (taught in "Sewing Basics 101")

Either Sewing 102 and/or Sewing 103, OR have experience sewing a few simple projects.

If you're unsure whether you have the necessary skills, please ask us!

SUPPLIES LIST:

Two to five articles of clothing to alter (Since you are learning, you may want to start with an item that you
won't mind messing up. Just in case!)

Fabric scissors/shears

Pins

Sewing machine (optional—bring your own or use ours)

Seam ripper

SUPPLIES INCLUDED:

Measuring tools

Sewing machine needles (universal, stretch, jersey, not twin)

Marking tools
